What are the causes and solutions for oil leaks in hydraulic press machine?

Oil leaks sometimes occur during the use of hydraulic press machine. So, what are the causes and solutions for oil leaks in hydraulic press machine?

I. Hydraulic Line Oil Leakage

  1. Substandard Hydraulic Pipeline Quality

Substandard hydraulic pipelines have low pressure-bearing capacity, short service life, and are prone to oil leaks. For iron oil pipes, uneven wall thickness reduces their load-bearing capacity; for flexible hoses, poor rubber quality, insufficient tensile strength of the steel wire layer, and uneven braiding all result in insufficient load-bearing capacity.

Solution: Use high-quality hydraulic pipelines from reputable companies.

  1. Improper pipe installation or mounting. Many technicians fail to consider pipe length, angles, or thread compatibility during design, forcing configurations that cause pipe deformation, induce installation stress, shorten service life, and lead to oil leakage.

Solution: Reduce pipe length, angles, and number of bends, and secure pipes properly.

  1. O-ring deterioration or wear at pipe connections. O-rings seal pipe joints, but prolonged use causes aging, compromising their sealing function.

Solution: Replace with new O-rings.

II. Hydraulic Cylinder Oil Leakage

  1. During hydraulic cylinder seal assembly, components often pass through threaded sections, splines, keyways, and sharp edges. Minor misalignment can easily cause oil leakage at the seal lip.

Solution: Disassemble and reassemble the seals.

  1. Misalignment of the end cap during hydraulic cylinder assembly causes the piston rod to be off-center relative to the cylinder barrel. This makes rod extension difficult and accelerates seal wear.

Solution: Disassemble for inspection and reassemble.

  1. Aging or severe wear of hydraulic cylinder seals leads to oil leakage when pressurizing the cylinder.

Solution: Disassemble the hydraulic cylinder and replace the seals.

III. Hydraulic Valve Block Oil Leakage

  1. Valve block quality issues, such as sand holes, causing oil leakage.

Solution: Inspect the leaking valve block to determine if repair is feasible; otherwise, replace it with a new one.

  1. Improper installation of the valve block leading to leakage at connection points.

Solution: Remove the valve block and reinstall it correctly.

  1. Oil leakage due to aged or damaged valve block seals.

Solution: Remove the valve block, replace the seals with new ones, and reassemble.

IV. Hydraulic Pump Oil Leakage

  1. Oil leakage caused by defective or aged hydraulic pump seals.

Solution: Replace with new seals.

  1. Loose external oil lines, damaged pipe fittings, or aged/cracked O-rings on the hydraulic pump.

Solution: Replace with new O-rings.

  1. Internal components of the hydraulic pump are aged or severely worn, causing oil leakage.

Solution: Replace the hydraulic pump with a new one.

In short, oil leakage in a hydraulic press machine indicates a leak in the hydraulic system. Inspect and repair components such as hydraulic lines, valve blocks, hydraulic pumps, and hydraulic cylinders to identify and resolve the specific cause.
