Tool Setting Methods For CNC Lathe

CNC lathe is one of the widely used CNC machine tools. It is mainly used for the cutting of internal and external cylindrical surfaces of shaft parts or disk parts, internal and external conical surfaces of arbitrary cone angles, complex rotary internal and external surfaces, cylinders, tapered threads, etc., and can be used for grooving, drilling, reaming, reaming and boring.

Tool setting method of CNC machine tools
The lathe has tool setting device and no tool setting device, but the principle of tool setting is the same. First, there is no tool setting device. The lathe itself has a mechanical origin. When you set the tool, you generally need to try to cut. For example, when the outer diameter of the lathe is one tool, exit in the Z direction, measure the outer diameter of the lathe part, and then find the tool number you use in the G screen, move the cursor to X and enter X. Press the measuring machine tool to know the position of the tool tip on the tool position. With the same inner diameter, it is simple to cut in the Z direction. Just touch each tool in the Z direction and measure Z0.

In this way, all the tools have been recorded. Make sure that the processing zero point is in the workpiece shift. Any tool can determine the workpiece zero point. In this way, remember to read the tool before tool setting.

A more convenient method is to use the collet to set the tool. We know the external diameter of the collet, and the tool can touch the input external diameter. When aligning the internal diameter, we can take a measuring block and press it on the collet by hand, and also input the external diameter of the collet. If there is a tool setting device, it is much more convenient. The tool setting device is equivalent to a fixed tool setting test cutting workpiece, and the position will be recorded when the tool touches it. Therefore, if it is a variety of small batch processing, it is best to buy a tool setting device to save time.

1. Tool setting by trial cutting
Tool setting by trial cutting is the most widely used tool setting method in practice. Take the RFCZ12 lathe with MITSUBISHI 50L CNC system as an example to introduce the specific operation method.
After the workpiece and tool are clamped, drive the spindle to rotate, and move the tool holder to the workpiece to try to cut a section of excircle. Then move the Z-axis tool away from the workpiece with the X coordinate unchanged, and measure the diameter of the outer circle of this section. Input it into the tool length in the corresponding tool parameters, and the system will automatically subtract the diameter of the excircle to be cut from the current X coordinate of the tool, that is, the position of the X origin of the workpiece coordinate system. Then move the tool to try to cut one end face of the workpiece, enter Z0 in the tool width in the corresponding tool parameters, and the system will automatically subtract the value just entered from the Z coordinate of the tool at this time, that is, the position of the Z origin of the workpiece coordinate system.

In fact, to find the position of the workpiece origin in the mechanical coordinate system is not to find the actual position of the point, but to find the position of the tool holder when the tool tip reaches (0, 0). Generally, standard tools are not used for tool setting in this way, and all the tools to be used need to be aligned before processing.

2. Automatic tool setting with tool setting instrument
Now many lathes are equipped with tool setting instruments. Using tool setting instruments to set tools can avoid measuring errors and greatly improve tool setting accuracy. Because the tool setting instrument can automatically calculate the difference between the tool length and the tool width of each tool, and store it in the system, when processing other parts, only the standard tool is needed, which greatly saves time. It should be noted that the tool setting instrument is generally equipped with a standard tool, and the standard tool should be checked before tool setting.
