Metal Bandsaw Machine Operating Income Rise
According to data from the association, from January to September 2022, the operating income of key contact enterprises of the China Machine Tool Industry Association increased by 1.2% year-on-year. Among them, the metal cutting machine tool sub-industry decreased by 5.9% year-on-year, the metal forming machine tool sub-industry increased by 25.9% year-on-year, the measuring tool sub-industry decreased by 1.9% year-on-year, and the abrasive abrasives sub-industry increased by 16.2% year-on-year.
From a monthly perspective, in July, August, and September, the monthly operating income of key contact companies decreased by 2.5%, increased by 7.0%, and increased by 8.3% year-on-year respectively.

According to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to September 2022, the output of metal cutting machine tools of designated enterprises was 416,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 11.1%; the output of metal forming machine tools was 152,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 13.1%.
According to China Customs data, the total import and export volume of the machine tool industry from January to September 2022 was 25.28 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%. Among them, the total import value was 9.49 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 9.6%; the total export value was 15.79 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 15.0%. Imports have declined, while exports have maintained double-digit growth.
In terms of exports, the trend of substantial growth is still maintained. Among them, the export value of metal processing machine tools was 4.58 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 21.0%.
Overall, the epidemic had a severe impact on the industry in the first three quarters, and operating income resumed growth after August. Driven by the good start of the national economy in early 2022, the machine tool industry achieved double-digit growth in January and February. Beginning in late March, the outbreak of the epidemic in Shanghai, Beijing and other places has generally severely impacted the production and operation of enterprises in the machine tool industry, resulting in a sharp decline in the monthly operating income indicators of key contact companies in April and May, and monthly indicators in June and July. The rate of decline gradually narrowed, but the cumulative growth rate turned into a decline. Since August, the monthly and cumulative growth rates of operating income have all resumed growth. However, the output of machine tools and new orders for machine tools are still in a year-on-year decline.
High-end CNC Lathe Machine Tools Continue to Increase
It is understood that at this stage, the number of domestic enterprises engaged in high-end machine tool business and the production and sales volume are still quite different from those in developed countries, and high-end CNC systems and key functional components are still mainly imported.
