Their workpiece is 203mm long, 9.4±0.005mm in diameter, with a straightness of 2.5 microns, a roundness of 0.5 microns, and a surface finish (Ra) of 0.2 microns. The roundness and precision requirements were quite high, and the rod also had two small bevels.
