Today a customer from Sri Lanka asked us to select a dividing head for his XL6436 ram-type milling machine. We learned that the customer will use the milling machine to process straight-tooth and straight spline parts, so we recommend the F12160 dividing head.

F12160 is a semi-universal dividing head with a center height of 160 mm.
1. Model Definition
F12 = semi-universal series; 160 = center height of 160 mm. It is not equipped with a set of change gears. It only supports simple indexing and cannot machine helical grooves or helical gears.
2. Main Advantages of F12160
- Cost-effective, simple structure, low failure rate and easy maintenance.
- Heavy-duty and rigid with large load capacity. It adopts a cast iron base, suitable for heavy cutting of workpieces with medium diameters. It matches large and medium-sized milling machines such as XL6436 and X6140, featuring good stability and low milling vibration.
- Tilting spindle. The spindle can be tilted up to 95° upwards and approximately 5° downwards. Workpieces can be clamped horizontally, vertically or at any angle for machining inclined surfaces and inclined grooves.
- Stable indexing accuracy and easy operation. It adopts standard 40:1 worm & worm gear transmission, with a minimum vernier reading of 10 arcseconds. It supports simple indexing and angular indexing. Ordinary operators can master it easily without complicated differential indexing calculations.
- Universal mounting standard, compatible with multiple milling machines. The 18 mm locating key fits standard T-slots. It can be directly installed on XL6436 ram milling machines, X6132/X6140 universal horizontal milling machines and vertical turret milling machines without custom adapter plates.
- Wide application for full coverage of basic equal indexing machining. Equipped with a tailstock and 3-jaw chuck, it can clamp shaft-type and disc-type workpieces via centers or chuck jaws.
3. List of Processable Workpieces
- Straight-tooth parts: straight spur gears, straight rectangular spline shafts (the spline tooth root has a transition fillet; sharp right-angle root cannot be achieved)
- Polyhedral workpieces: square, hexagonal, octagonal, dodecagonal bolts, nuts and shaft ends
- Equally spaced grooves: circumferential equal straight grooves, keyways, straight tooth grooves for clutches
- Angular workpieces: inclined surfaces, inclined grooves and eccentric angle positioning parts with fixed included angles
- Equally spaced hole machining: circumferential equal drilling and positioning notch milling for disc workpieces
- General tooling accessories: tool blanks, indexing jigs and mold index inserts
