What should we do if the band saw blade causes the workpiece to be slanted?

The workpiece is always cut diagonally, which is a common problem in band saw blade cutting. There are many factors involved. Some people blame the band saw blade supplier. In fact, the sawing of the workpiece involves not only the skill of the operator, but also the adjustment of the sawing machine. But the final factor has to be reflected in the serrated tooth edge, because the tooth edge is the key to determining the quality of cutting. After the saw band is slanted, the operator should immediately disassemble it to see the tooth tip of the band saw blade. Originally, each cutting edge of the new saw band is like a sharp small shovel, but at this time you will see that one of the tooth edges is white and shiny. Use a magnifying glass to see that one side is blunt, and the saw is skewed.

It is common that the outside is blunt, the reason is that the clamping is not good, the band saw blade does not enter the vertical state. The hard side (mostly the outside) is damaged. Now, let’s analyze the process of sawing:

1.Reasons for band sawing machine: due to leakage of hydraulic system, out of control of the speed control valve, tilting of the band sawing machine, etc., the saw frame is not steadily lowered, and the saw blade jitters when cutting, resulting in saw skew. In addition, if the distance between the two guide arms of the sawing machine is too large, the saw blade tension is not enough, the guide block is worn and the saw blade is not properly clamped, it will directly affect the quality of the sawing, and then cause the sawing diagonally

2.The reason for the operator: Here we will focus on the saw skew caused by poor operation. The ratio of saw skew due to operation accounts for more than 90%. The typical performance is: install a new band saw blade without any inspection, adjustment, let alone the initial run-in of the new band saw blade, and then perform high-speed cutting. Due to the relatively large cutting feed rate, the saw teeth are in the extreme cutting state. In this case, because the new saw blades are very sharp, there are also burrs and small tolerances during processing. If the new saw blade does not run-in correction at a slow speed, the tooth blade will wear out prematurely or unilaterally, and the amount of teeth will be damaged. The new saw blade will be sawed and even chipped.

3. The correct operation should be: After the band saw blade is tensioned, measure the vertical accuracy of the band saw blade, and adjust the guide arm to a distance of about 1 cm from the workpiece (Doing so can avoid sawing skew, reduce the distortion of the band saw blade, and extend the lifespan of the band saw blade.),and lock the guide block. When sawing, when the saw tooth touches the workpiece, it must be fed slowly (in the initial running-in phase) to ensure that the saw tooth will not receive excessive subduction cutting force, so that the band saw blade can cut normally through the running-in period.

In addition, the following unfavorable factors may cause sawing to occur:

a.The guide arm is too far away from the workpiece, and the saw blade tension is adjusted improperly.

b.The saw blade is not clamped by the guide block, or the plane of the guide block has worn out unevenly.

c.The clamped band saw blade is not perpendicular to the work surface.

d. The band saw blade does not run-in cutting, and the edge of the divided tooth on the side of the saw tooth is prematurely blunt. Because the problem of sawing diagonally of the workpiece leads to various factors, if the above methods cannot solve it, please consult technicians to obtain technical support.
