Recently, Shanghai ANTS met with a South African pipe processing client to customize an automation upgrade. This client specializes in cutting and processing stainless steel pipe components. Their original production line relied on traditional band saws for the blanking process. With continuously increasing orders, the shortcomings of the existing equipment—low cutting efficiency, poor cutting accuracy, and high labor costs—became increasingly apparent. To expand production capacity and standardize the dimensional accuracy of finished products, the client selected the HY-230NC fully automatic carbide circular saw (TCT saw blade model) to upgrade their production line. The equipment is specifically adapted for processing 80–200mm large-diameter thick-walled stainless steel pipes.

Based on the customer’s on-site production conditions, the customer’s core processing needs are clearly defined:
- Processing Material and Specifications: Stainless steel round pipes, with diameters ranging from 80mm to 200mm and wall thicknesses from 3mm to 10mm. This is a thick-walled, difficult-to-machine material like stainless steel, placing stringent requirements on equipment rigidity, sawing drive torque, and hydraulic clamping capacity.
- Raw Material and Finished Product Dimensions: The longest single raw pipe length is 6000mm. Finished product cutting lengths are not fixed, concentrated in the 100mm–300mm range, requiring frequent switching of the fixed-length cutting program.
- Replacement Needs: Replace the old band saw equipment with a TCT carbide circular saw blade for high-speed sawing, increasing hourly output, reducing burrs and elliptical deformation at the pipe cut, and minimizing post-processing grinding.
Based on the mature HY-230NC CNC circular saw model, we have optimized the overall machine parameters and structure specifically for the South African customer’s stainless steel thick-walled pipe processing scenario. The core hardware configuration and compatibility advantages of the equipment are as follows:

Three Core Advantages of the HY-230NC Customized Model
- Heavy-duty, high-rigidity structure overcomes the pain points of sawing thick-walled stainless steel
The equipment is equipped with a 37kW high-power spindle and a heavy-duty machine body, coupled with a two-way hydraulic synchronous clamping mechanism. Addressing the high cutting resistance of 3-10mm thick-walled stainless steel pipes for South African customers, the machine operates without resonance or vibration. Combined with a large-specification Ø750 TCT carbide circular saw blade, it effectively solves problems such as large burrs on the cut, elliptical deformation of the pipe, and dimensional tolerance fluctuations inherent in traditional band saw cutting. The cut pipes can be directly transferred to bending and stamping processes, eliminating the need for manual grinding.
- Fully servo-automated feeding, adaptable to variable-length batch production
The machine is equipped with a fully CNC control system, with sawing, feeding, and clamping actions programmed and stored in a linked manner. When customers flexibly switch between 100-300mm and finished product lengths, production specifications can be quickly changed simply by calling a preset program. A single 6-meter section of stainless steel pipe is loaded at once, with servo ball screws providing precise segmented feeding, up to 800mm per feed, continuously completing multiple cuts. Compared to the original band saw’s multiple manual feedings of a single pipe, this significantly increases production capacity while stabilizing finished product length tolerances.
The equipment can be equipped with an active/passive wire brush chip removal device to simultaneously clean metal debris from the pipe surface during sawing, preventing debris from scratching the stainless steel pipe’s outer wall and ensuring the finished product’s appearance quality. A gear backlash magnetic powder brake compensation device eliminates transmission backlash loss caused by long-term mass production, ensuring consistent length accuracy over long-term use.
- Low-cost, flexible expansion to accommodate future capacity expansion: The HY-230NC circular saw can process pipes up to 230mm in diameter. If the customer currently only processes pipes up to 200mm, there is room for expansion to a 30mm specification. Subsequent orders for larger stainless steel pipes will not require replacing the main equipment. The machine’s hydraulic and electrical interfaces are standardized, allowing for the addition of fully automatic feeding racks and sorting tables to achieve unmanned production line upgrades. When replacing an existing band saw production line, the machine’s 7900×3900mm footprint is compatible with the customer’s existing workshop roller conveyor layout, significantly reducing the production line modification cycle and civil engineering investment.
Project Follow-up
Currently, the HY-230NC fully automatic TCT carbide circular saw, customized and optimized for the South African client, has entered the assembly and debugging phase. All parameters, clamping structures, and cutting programs are calibrated according to the client’s processing conditions for 80–200mm thick-walled stainless steel pipes. Before leaving the factory, the equipment will undergo a 6-meter continuous stainless steel pipe cutting trial to simulate the client’s batch production process for 100–300mm multi-variety finished product lengths, verifying cutting efficiency, cutting surface accuracy, and continuous operation stability.
If domestic or international pipe processing companies have upgrade needs for large-scale automated cutting of stainless steel round and square pipes, they can contact the Shanghai ANTS technical team to match a corresponding CNC circular saw solution based on pipe material, pipe diameter and wall thickness, finished product length, and workshop conditions.
