What factors should be considered when selecting a CNC cylindrical grinder?

The CNC external cylindrical grinder precisely controls the relative motion between the grinding wheel and the workpiece through a computer control system. During the machining process, the grinding wheel rotates at high speed, and the workpiece rotates at a certain speed. At the same time, the grinding wheel feeds along the axial and radial directions of the workpiece according to a pre-set program. Its working principle is based on the grinding action of the grinding wheel on the surface material of the workpiece, grinding the outer cylindrical surface of the workpiece to the required dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

For example, when grinding the outer circle of a cylindrical shaft, the grinding wheel rotates at a speed of thousands of revolutions per minute, and the shaft rotates at an appropriate speed. The grinding wheel first quickly approaches the workpiece, and then grinds according to the set grinding depth and feed speed, gradually grinding from one end of the shaft to the other end, and finally obtains an outer cylindrical surface of precise size.

Factors to consider in selection

1.Processing requirements

Part size and weight: Choose a grinder of appropriate specifications according to the maximum outer diameter, length and weight of the workpieces that are often processed. For example, small CNC cylindrical grinders such as mk1308 and mk1312 can be selected for small parts; mk1320 and mk1332 series are generally more suitable for medium-sized parts; large CNC cylindrical grinders such as mk1350, mk1363 and mk1380 should be considered for large parts.

Processing accuracy requirements:If the processing accuracy requirements are extremely high, such as parts in the fields of aerospace, precision instruments and meters, it is necessary to select a high-precision CNC cylindrical grinder, whose roundness can reach 0.001mm or even higher, and the surface roughness can reach Ra0.2μm or less; for general industrial parts processing, grinders with a roundness of 0.002-0.005mm and a surface roughness of Ra0.4-0.8μm can usually meet the requirements.

Processing efficiency requirements: If batch production is required, a CNC cylindrical grinder with a high degree of automation, fast grinding speed and large feed volume should be selected. If it is equipped with an automatic loading and unloading device, a fast tool change system and an efficient CNC system, it can effectively reduce auxiliary time and improve production efficiency; for single-piece small-batch production, more attention can be paid to the flexibility and precision of the grinder.

2.Machine tool performance

Precision index:including geometric accuracy, motion accuracy and thermal stability. The manufacturing accuracy of the bed, workbench, grinding wheel frame and other components and the assembly accuracy between them will directly affect the processing accuracy of the grinder. You can check the accuracy test report of the machine tool or conduct actual trial grinding to evaluate; grinders with good thermal stability can reduce the accuracy loss caused by thermal deformation during long-term processing.

Rigidity: Grinding machines with good rigidity can withstand large cutting forces without deformation during processing, which can be judged by observing the structural design, materials and heat treatment process of the machine tool. For example, the bed with large round holes and shark fin-shaped rib plate structure usually has good rigidity.
